Meet the Exhibiting Artists of HERstory Reframed
Aza Mansongi (DRC), Kristine Tsala (Cameroon), Falhone Ogoun (Benin Republic)
Breaking free from the norms, telling untold stories through a fresh lens, and history being made like ivy is to stone…is precisely the spirit that infuses the 6th edition of the small & Iconic miniature art exhibition titled; HERstory Reframed.
This edition embodies its name as it features exceptional artists whose works will grace our exhibition halls.
HERstory Reframed is a testament to how unifying art can be. This edition will challenge norms, give voice to the silenced, and also celebrate the kaleidoscope of human experience. In a world where history books often overlook the contributions of women, HERstory Reframed flips the script, putting women front and centre of creativity and expression.
Carefully curated by Keturah Ovio, a director at Patrons Modern & Contemporary African Art Limited, the exhibition will be held from the 30th of March through the 14th of April, 2024 at The Art Hotel, Plot 13A, Block III, Yesufu Abiodun Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos.
This exhibition showcases artworks from 3 amazing female artists representing 3 Francophone African countries. We give them their flowers as we make an official introduction to who these women are, their humble beginnings, and what motivates and inspires them in this digest. Certainly, they have carved a niche for themselves, setting them apart from their contemporaries.

The Visionary Exhibiting Artists
1. Aza Mansongi (Democratic Republic of Congo)
Aza Mansongi's journey reads like a testament to the power of perseverance and passion. Hailing from Kinshasa, her artistic flair was evident from a young age, nurtured by parents who saw the spark of genius in her sketches. Despite facing initial hurdles, Aza's dedication saw her through, culminating in a degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa.
An art degree does not make the artists and Aza is true to be defined by this statement. It was not just her formal education that shaped her; it was the vibrant community of Ateliers Botembe that truly ignited her artistic flame. Collaborations came and went, but Aza's resolve remained unshaken. Her art is a testament to resilience and creativity. Her unique style and play with colours, forms, figures, and lines make her distinct and recognisable after her first interaction with her works.
2. Kristine Tsala (Cameroon)
From the bustling streets of Yaoundé to the vibrant studios of Ivory Coast, Kristine Tsala's art knows no bounds. Kristine originates from Cameroon but currently lives in Abidjan.
Kristine’s work is a celebration of memory; a dance in colours and patterns that weave tales of past and present. Trained at esteemed institutions like the Mbalmayo Institute of Artistic Training and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, Kristine's art transcends borders, inviting viewers on a journey of discovery. Every brushstroke is a revelation, each installation a stage for the stories that linger in the shadows.
3. Falhone Ogoun (Benin Republic)
Representing Benin is the artist Falhone Ogoun, a force to be reckoned with. Her creations spark conversations wherever they go. Her art is a fusion of tradition and modernity, a symphony of colours and textures that speak to the soul. From installations that challenge perspectives to paintings that celebrate the human experience, Falhone's works are as diverse as they are captivating. With every brushstroke, she invites us to see the world anew, to embrace the beauty of our shared humanity.
As HERstory Reframed prepares to open its doors, one thing is abundantly clear: these artists are not just shaping the narrative; they are rewriting it entirely. Through their creativity, passion, and unyielding determination, Aza Mansongi, Kristine Tsala, and Falhone Ogoun are paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future—one brushstroke at a time.
